La Vagabonde III - For Sale
An Almost New Yacht.
Hey guys Riley here. I think the main selling point for this vessel should be that the new owner will avoid the years of build time, the stress of project managing a new build and the commissioning challenges that come with buying new. The reality of a new-build project is far more complex than most people expect. 3 years of our lives myself and Elayna poured into this project and our only reason for selling is to spend more time on land having spent over a decade at sea. La Vagabonde III offers something exceptionally rare: a nearly new, custom-built, all carbon trimaran that can be sailed away tomorrow.
There is the trifling matter of being able to go at 25 knots in about 19 knots of wind when you’re feeling saucey. If the crew is tired or it’s coming on nightshift, in the exact same conditions put 2 reefs in the main and roll out the jib to travel at the speed of the waves gently clocking up miles at 12 knots knowing that if a 35 knot squall hits it isn’t necessary to change the sails at all so you will sleep very well. The 11.8m (39’) beam creates a wide footprint on the ocean further increasing comfort along with the ammas creating somewhat of a shock absorbing dynamic dampening roll, pitch and yaw, very noticeable as conditions worsen.
With a confirmed race weight of 11.8t she is half the weight of even performance oriented similar length catamarans and sleeps 4 people and two children rather comfortably. As I’m writing this I’m honestly wondering if I’ve made the right decision to sell our boat. Think for a moment about the wind and the forces required to propel an object through the ocean and then think about doubling the weight of the object and the impact that has on efficiency. We sailed from the Philippines to Japan on this trimaran in the middle of hurricane season because we knew this vessel would make enough ground easily enough to keep us safe. We did that with two children onboard and we did it easily. It opens up a whole world of possibilities.
Launched in October 2023 and built by Triac Composites the Rapido 60 platform was designed by Morelli & Melvin. La Vagabonde III was selected and configured with a clear sailing philosophy: ease of handling and able to be single handed, offshore capability and reliability which means well built and sturdy and also with enough storage, power and comforts to be able to travel to the worlds most remote locations for months at a time.
*****
Hey guys, Elayna here (the wife). I wanted to add a few words about the comfort of the vessel. From the very beginning of the design process, we were intent on creating something that genuinely felt like a home, not just a boat. That meant being deliberate with textures and materials.. things that felt warm, tactile, and lived-in.
We chose copper sinks and taps, which have been fantastic (yes, the patina needs a monthly clean, but the aesthetic is absolutely worth it), timber finishes in the galley and saloon table, wallpapers to soften the space and move away from the flat, showroom-Ikea feel that so many production boats default to.
It’s also incredibly kid-safe. The cockpit is deep and well protected, set far from the edges, so the kids can be outside with you while underway without that constant low-level anxiety about someone going overboard.
We’re immensely proud of what we created here. Saying goodbye is bittersweet, but we’re excited for new owners to step aboard and love her as much as we have!
